A Tribute to Pastor Richard Callwood
On behalf of Global Life Church, my wife and I extend heartfelt prayers of comfort and strength to Pastor Callwood’s family, the Oasis Church community, the clergy of St. Thomas, and the wider Virgin Islands. We grieve with you and honor the life of a servant who ran his race faithfully.
My recollection of Pastor Richard Callwood is vivid and treasured. He was a man of the Word—one who not only studied scripture but lived it out with unwavering integrity and grace. His heart beat for truth, and he was never content to keep revelation to himself. He eagerly shared every insight the Lord revealed, sowing wisdom into the lives of his congregation and all who crossed his path.
I grew closer to him during “Power Week,” a time marked by fervent prayer, passionate teaching, and joyful worship. Pastor Callwood had a deep love for the power of prayer, and he led us in lifting up our island and our nation with fire and unity. Those moments were not just services—they were sacred encounters.
My wife also remembers him as her father’s very first tenant at the Contant Rentals. That early connection blossomed into years of mutual respect and warm neighborly fellowship, especially when Oasis Church was established near the Turnbull family home in Contant.
His caring spirit, pastoral gentleness, and unwavering godly passion left a lasting mark. His friendly demeanor, deep compassion, and fervency for the things of God will be sorely missed.
We take comfort in these words from 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (NIV):
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness..."
Pastor Callwood surely wears that crown today.
May the Lord surround his loved ones with peace that surpasses understanding, and may his legacy continue to bear fruit in the lives he touched.
