Let not your heart be troubled
Funeral Sermon
John 14:1
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.”
a. Faith in God and in Jesus is the key to overcoming fear and anxiety!
b.Trusting in God provides comfort and strength in times of sorrow and uncertainty.
1.People's hearts are troubled because of their political situation
Proverbs 29:2
“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.”
a. Leadership and governance impact the well-being of people, causing distress when injustice prevails.
b. God calls his people to trust Him knowing that he is ultimately in control.
2.Bitterness can trouble the heart
Hebrews 12:15
“See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
a. Bitterness can take root in the heart, leading to emotional and spiritual harm.
b. God's grace enables you to let go of resentment and embrace healing.
3.Lack of peace can trouble the heart
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
a. Jesus offers a peace that surpasses worldly understanding, bringing calm in the midst of turmoil.
b. True peace comes from trusting in Christ, not in external circumstances.
4.How you think towards God can trouble the heart
Romans 1:21
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him,( when was the last time you thanked God?) but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
a. A heart that rejects God becomes troubled and lost in confusion.
B. When you Honor and acknowledge God it brings clarity and purpose to life.
5.Sin can trouble the heart
Psalm 51:5
“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”
a. Sin is inherent in human nature, causing separation from God.
b. Through repentance and faith, God offers forgiveness and restoration.
6.Job says as a man lives so he dies
Job 14:1-2
“Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.”
a. Life is fleeting, and how one lives determines their eternal destiny.
b. Walking in divine purpose ensures a meaningful and fulfilling life.
7.Then shall the Lord say to those on his right hand
Matthew 25:34
“Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
a. God desires for his people to enter his kingdom and receive eternal life.
b. Living righteously leads to the reward of being welcomed into God's presence.
b.Jesus said I go to prepare a place for you
John 14:3
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
a. Jesus promises a future home for believers, offering hope beyond this life.
b. His return assures that those who trust in him will be with him forever.
Call to Christ
We serve a God who takes away sin
John 1:29
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. “
a. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice, removing the burden of sin.
b. Accepting Christ brings redemption and eternal life.
Today only you can ask Jesus to take away your sin
2 Corinthians 6:2
“For he says, In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”
a. Salvation is available today, and waiting may lead to missed opportunities.
b. Turning to Christ now ensures forgiveness and a renewed relationship with God.
