THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS

1. Our Words Are That Important

Matthew 12:36–37 (NKJV)

“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Jesus reveals that words are not casual—they are recorded, weighed, and remembered.

“Idle words” include careless comments, unguarded reactions, sarcasm, criticism, and murmuring.

Words expose the condition of the heart; they reveal what is hidden beneath the surface.

This passage is meant to awaken us, not condemn us—Jesus is calling us to holy awareness.

Every word has spiritual weight; nothing spoken is insignificant in Heaven.

2. We Have Been Cleansed

Romans 8:1 (NKJV)

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…”

Believers stand justified—fully forgiven, fully cleansed, fully accepted.

The judgment we face is not the “great white throne” judgment of sinners.

Our judgment is the béma seat—the mercy seat of Christ—where rewards are given.

The Blood of Jesus covers every sin, including sinful or careless words.

God’s remembrance of our words is not to shame us but to refine us.

2 Corinthians 5:10 (NKJV)

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body…”

This judgment is about reward, not punishment.

Jesus evaluates what was eternal versus what was empty.

Words that were fleshly burn away; words that were Spirit-led remain.

3. Our Words Matter Just Like Our Actions

1 Corinthians 3:12–15 (NKJV)

“…each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it… the fire will test each one’s work…”

Words are part of our “works”—they will be tested by fire.

Idle, destructive, or fleshly words become wood, hay, and stubble.

Encouraging, faith-filled, compassionate, and prayerful words become gold, silver, and precious stones.

Words shape atmospheres, relationships, ministries, and destinies.

Heaven keeps record of every word spoken in love.

4. The Weight of Our Words

Matthew 7:2 (NKJV)

“For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Critical, mocking, or slanderous speech grieves the Holy Spirit.

Many call their criticism “discernment,” but it is often disguised judgment.

We must not curse what God may be blessing simply because it is unfamiliar.

Different does not mean wrong; style does not equal sincerity.

Words spoken against ministries, leaders, or movements carry serious consequences.

The measure we use becomes the measure Heaven uses toward us.

5. Your Testimony Is Precious

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”

Salvation is secure, but testimony can be damaged by careless speech.

Jesus’ warning was aimed at the proud, not the humble.

Words can build or break your witness before others.

A pure testimony is a powerful evangelistic tool.

God calls us to steward our speech as part of our calling.

6. Let Us Guard Our Lips

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV)

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD…”

Guarding our words is an act of love, not fear.

Every word is heard in Heaven—spoken before the King.

When we fail, we run to the mercy seat, not away from it.

Speaking life is a daily choice, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

God desires our words to reflect the price He paid for us.

Conclusion

Words are spiritual seeds—every one produces a harvest.

Idle words are forgiven, but they may be burned away as worthless.

Life-giving words become eternal treasure and heavenly reward.

Guarding our speech protects our testimony and honors Christ.

The mercy seat awaits us with love, not shame—so let our words reflect His heart.
