Running Towards Your Giant: Conquering Challenges with Faith

1 Samuel 17:41-47NKJV 41 So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him.

42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained[a] him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.

43 So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

Introduction: Embracing Challenges as Opportunities

Facing our giants, those seemingly insurmountable obstacles in life, is not about retreating in fear, but about running towards them with faith and determination. The story of David and Goliath exemplifies this spirit of conquering challenges head-on. Let's delve into how David's unwavering faith and courage can inspire us to run towards our giants.

1. The Improbable Confrontation: David and Goliath

David: A young shepherd boy, seemingly ill-equipped

Goliath: A skilled warrior, towering and intimidating

David's age: Likely a teenager, contrasting with Goliath's lifetime of training.

Goliath's armor and stature: A formidable physical presence

David's faith: The intangible weapon that would define the battle.

2. Unwavering Faith vs. Overwhelming Odds

David's arrival at the battlefront

Mockery from his older brothers

David's understanding of the challenge as a spiritual battle

The power of faith: Seeing beyond physical appearances

David's proclamation: "The battle is the Lord’s”.

3. Gathering Stones of Faith: Equipping Yourself

Just as David gathered smooth stones, we can equip ourselves with spiritual stones to face our giants:

Stone of Power: Tapping into God's strength

Stone of Intercession: Praying and seeking God's guidance

Stone of Strength: Building emotional resilience

Stone of Faith: Believing in the impossible

Stone of Tenacity: Persevering despite setbacks

4. Talking Back to Your Giant: The Power of Declaration

David's bold response: "You come against me with sword and spear..."

Speaking faith into action: Affirming God's victory

Using words as weapons: Declaring victory over challenges

Finding scriptural promises to declare against your giants.

The impact of speaking words of faith and authority

5. Conclusion: Running Towards Your Giants

Faith-Filled Action: Don't let fear dictate your choices.

Divine Assistance: God fights alongside those who trust in Him.

Growth Through Challenges: Giants as catalysts for personal growth

Defeating Giants: Not diminishing their size, but enlarging your faith

Inspiring Others: Stepping out can inspire others to do the same.

"You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty..." - 1 Samuel 17:45 (NIV)

Running towards your giant isn't about denying the challenges but embracing the opportunity to witness God's power and faithfulness in action. By following David's example and armed with faith, we can conquer our giants and inspire those around us to do the same. So, will you be the one to step out, face your giants, and see God's victory unfold in your life?

Let Us Turn to Prayer for our Community

Daily News Feature Report and Ad

As a pastor and a concerned citizen, I am writing to invite you to join me and other church leaders in a community-wide prayer initiative.

Audio Link to this blog @ https://youtu.be/O8y0-L4c1fo

We are living in challenging times, and we need to seek God’s face and favor for our island, our families, and our future.

You may have noticed that in our community, many men are dying of natural causes and some are dying due to homicide in our territory. Recently, many families have been losing their loved ones in twos and threes in our community.

This is a cause for us as a people, to come together and pray for God’s mercy, protection, and healing

The Bible tells us that “men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1 KJV) 1 and that “if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV)

These verses remind us of the power and promise of prayer, and the need for repentance and revival.

Therefore, I am inviting you to join me and other church leaders in the St. Thomas and St. John region for a one-hour community prayer every Thursday of the week, starting from September 14th, 2023

We will meet at the Global Life Church, right along the Weymouth Rhymer Highway on St. Thomas from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

You can come as you are, bring a friend, or join us online.

During this hour of prayer, we will pray for:

  1. Island repentance:  We will confess our sins and ask God to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Families returning back to God:

  2. We will pray for the restoration of broken relationships, the healing of wounded hearts, and the salvation of lost souls.

  3.  Our men and fathers: We will pray for them to return to the God of their fathers, to be strong and courageous leaders, and to be faithful husbands and fathers.

  4.  Our women and mothers: We will pray for them to be virtuous women of God, to be wise and loving nurturers, and to be supportive wives and mothers.

  5. Our government leaders: We will pray for them to have wisdom, integrity, and justice in their decisions, and to serve the people with humility and honor.

  6. Our spiritual leaders: We will pray for them to have a strong anointing, boldness, and compassion in their ministry, and to preach the word of God with clarity and conviction.

  7. Our children: We will pray for them to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, to grow in grace and knowledge, and to be a generation that seeks God’s will.

  8.  Revival, restoration, refreshing, renewal, and healing: We will pray for God to pour out His Spirit upon us, to revive our hearts, to restore our joy, to refresh our souls, to renew our minds, and to heal our land. We believe that it is time to pray.

We believe that God hears our prayers. We believe that God answers our prayers. We believe that God can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. We believe that God can change our situation. We believe that God can change us.

Will you join us in prayer?

Will you stand with us in faith?

Will you agree with us in hope?

Will you partner with us in love?

Let us turn to prayer for our community.

Let us see what God will do.

Heaven is Open for Business: Experiencing the Power of an Open Heaven in Your Life

Audio Blog @ https://youtu.be/GL3w5ay89Kw

As believers, we have the incredible privilege of accessing an open heaven—a direct line of communication between God and us. This divine connection holds immense power and potential for our lives. Let's explore some key instances from the Bible that illustrate the profound impact of an open heaven on believers.

Adam and Eve's Divine Fellowship in the Garden In the beginning, God created a perfect environment for humanity to experience an open heaven. He walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Their fellowship was characterized by the beautiful image of God communing with His creation. We find this account in:

Genesis 3:8 (NIV): "Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day..."

Adam and Eve's open heaven allowed them to receive direct instructions from God about how to fulfill their role in tending to and subduing the Earth. This experience emphasizes the intimacy and guidance that an open heaven provides for believers.

Enoch's Heavenly Journey

Enoch's life was marked by a remarkable relationship with God. He walked so closely with God that he transcended the boundaries of mortality and entered heaven itself. His open heaven experience is a testament to the extraordinary connection believers can have with their Creator.

Genesis 5:24 (NIV): "Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away."

Enoch's unique journey provides three key takeaways:

  1. Intimacy with God: Enoch's consistent walk with God led to an unparalleled closeness, demonstrating the potential of a deep, personal relationship with Him.
  2. Transformation: Enoch's transition from earthly life to heavenly existence reflects the transformation that an open heaven can bring to believers, renewing and elevating their lives.
  3. Heavenly Perspective: Enoch's experience offers believers a glimpse of the eternal perspective that comes from an open heaven, as he walked with God and ultimately walked into His presence.

Jacob's Ladder of Connection Jacob's encounter with God illustrates how an open heaven can be a source of comfort, guidance, and revelation. While fleeing from his brother, he received a vision of angels ascending and descending a ladder. This heavenly interaction left Jacob with a profound realization:

Genesis 28:16-17 (NIV): "When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, 'Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.' He was afraid and said, 'How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.'"

Jacob's experience highlights three significant aspects:

  1. Divine Presence: The open heaven brought God's presence near to Jacob, showing that God is always accessible and willing to engage with believers.
  2. Revelation: The interaction with the ladder of angels demonstrated the link between heaven and Earth, emphasizing the flow of communication and revelation from God to humanity.
  3. Awareness: Jacob's realization of God's presence encourages believers to be attentive to the open heaven around them, acknowledging that God is actively involved in their lives.

Experiencing Your Personal Open Heaven The experiences of Adam, Enoch, and Jacob illustrate the extraordinary impact of an open heaven on believers' lives. Today, we have the privilege of maintaining an open heaven through engaging with God's Word, prayer, and worship.

Communication with God: Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV): "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

This Scripture underscores God's desire for believers to communicate with Him. By seeking Him in prayer, reading His Word, and fostering a personal relationship, you can experience the continuous blessings of an open heaven in your life.

In conclusion, an open heaven is not a historical concept; it's a present reality for believers. Embrace the profound potential of this heavenly connection, and like Adam, Enoch, and Jacob, experience the transformative power of God's direct presence and guidance in your life every day.
